To aviod the destruction of the nests fireants use their own bodies into a raft. Some of the lava are even used a floatation devices. The 'raft' will float along a river until it finds a place to start a new nest.

Travelling in a school
Fish can quickly form into skools for safety and for travel. Skools of fish are known to form to travel long distances.
A school defentind itself
When attacked fish are known to form what could be described as a vortex. Large numbers of fish traveling in circles very quickly can confuse and disorientate preditors.
